does anyone know how the zone system and colors work in this plugin? can you make a selection?

Pierre, the zone system is just a visualization map of the tonal zones in your photo. It is real time and dynamic. Just click on the book button and you will see what the colors represent. And no, you cannot make a selection with a map. For that there are other tools in the panel.
