Anybody have a view on whether dipping into LAB colour space in Photoshop offers anything for monochrome photography? An acquaintance speaks highly of using this as a step in workflow. Looking at online articles or YouTube videos the content most relevant is several years old. Is it an approach whose time has come and gone? Does it offer anything in 2024?

Hello Jeff, I don't see any benefits using LAB color space for B&W photography. It can make a difference when you work in color but I don't see any additional value for B&W. I mean, the first thing to do is to remove the color before you do anything with the photograph in B&W. Even for masking I'm mostly relying on the luminance (contrast) information, not on color information.
